We sought to understand what influences physicians’ decisions about participation in continuous professional development (CPD) activities, and how often physicians engage in specific CPD activities.The reasons physicians select a given CPD activity vary by activity, but invariably include topic and quality of content. Physicians want CME credit for the CPD activities they are already doing.

This study was commissioned to use expert opinion to improve the consistency of important educational terminology by describing the essential components of a set of educational interventions.
