Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Cohorts Provided Latest in Social Learning and Instructional Technologies

CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSE TO OFFER CERTIFICATE IN LUNG CANCER DECISION‐MAKING

MILLSTONE Township, NJ (January 31, 2013) ‐ Oncology Learning Network (OLN), an initiative of North American Center for Continuing Education (NACCME), announces the development of “Decision‐making in Non‐small Cell Lung Cancer,” a 14‐week, web‐based continuing education initiative for health professionals who care for non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

“The complexity of lung cancer advancements requires new models of learning to keep pace. This course is designed to match the speed of change in NSCLC evidence‐based practices by delivering the curriculum within a collaborative learning platform,” commented Stephen Chavez, senior director, educational strategy for OLN and NACCME.

The course includes seven roundtable discussions hosted by NSCLC experts who interview guests on topics such as CT screening, immunotherapy and vaccines, molecular testing, maintenance therapy: beyond second and third‐line options, new modalities in radiation therapy, supportive care, histology and pathology.

The course will be powered by the ArcheMedX Collaborative Learning Platform. Brian S. McGowan, PhD, chief learning officer for ArcheMedX, explains, “To be useful, information must be connected to existing knowledge with context and shaped by the experience of each individual learner. Medical education that is structured around a model of connected learning has proven increasingly effective in bringing about practice change.”

Learner cohorts—oncologists, oncology nurses, pulmonologists, pathologists and radiologists—will be recruited by PeerAudience via integrated, multimedia distribution channels, including the targeted use of social media.
